Dear *|FNAME|*

In the midst of the pandemic and everyone’s uncertainty about the future, a bright light is shining over St. John’s Episcopal Church.

On behalf of St. John’s, I had the privilege in February to represent our church in applying for a $5,000 grant from the Bishop Whittemore Fund that would be put towards the building and development of a Sick Bay on the grounds of the UNITY School in Uganda.

St. John’s began saving for this project over 1 ½ years ago.  At the April meeting of the Foundation, Board members Randy Wegener and John Gork led the ‘Zoom’ discussion on the background of our request.  Then, the light became bright.  We were granted the full amount of our request, even in this time of challenging markets.

Building will begin June 1st and hopefully, will be completed in one month.  The newly named St. John’s Sick Bay will be staffed by a full-time nurse providing basic first aid, and teaching health education classes to the 150 students.

In the future, we hope to equip the school with Rapid Diagnostic Test kits (“RDT”) for malaria screening. This disease greatly affects Ugandan children each and every year, and the St. John’s Sick Bay will be able to refer those positive cases to a regional clinical pharmacy for drug treatment.

Your financial support, once again, shows this school community just how greatly it is loved, acknowledged, and is being cared for by their brothers and sisters in Christ across the world.  We thank John, Randy, and the entire Foundation for their continuing support that they bestow upon us.  We look forward to posting updates from the initial brick-laying construction photos to the last step of blessing the building with a plaque naming it the “St. John’s Sick Bay”.

And, the light will continue to shine forth.  Amen.

In Christ,
Sue Morriss
UNITY School Team Leader
